Most gyms give you one environment: indoors, under strip lighting, with air conditioning doing its best against a room full of people. Our studio, tucked into the Kent countryside just outside Tunbridge Wells, is built to give you a choice, train inside, outside, or both in the same session.
The case for outdoor training
Training outside changes how a session feels, not just how it looks. Natural light, fresh air, and a change of scenery all help with the mental side of a hard session, the part that's often harder than the physical work itself. There's evidence that exercising outdoors can lift mood and reduce perceived effort compared to the same workout indoors.
The case for keeping indoor as an option
Kent weather doesn't always cooperate, and some sessions, heavy lifting, technical coaching, benefit from a controlled, flat, indoor space. That's why the studio isn't outdoor-only or indoor-only: the doors open straight onto the deck, so the choice is made session to session, not locked in from the start.
It's your call, every session
Some clients train outside every week they can. Others prefer the indoor rig and never step outside. Most land somewhere in between depending on the day, the weather, and what the session calls for. Either way, it's a choice you get to make, not one made for you by a windowless commercial gym floor.
What outdoor sessions actually involve
It's not a run around a field, the outdoor space is set up properly, with equipment brought out for the session rather than a stripped-back "outdoor workout" that's really just cardio because there's nothing else to hand. Kettlebells, sleds, and bodyweight work all move outside easily; heavier barbell lifts tend to stay indoors on the rig, which is exactly why having both matters more than picking one environment and forcing everything into it.
What this means in winter
The indoor space is there precisely for the months outdoor training isn't appealing. You're never stuck training outside in the cold and rain because that's the only option, and you're never stuck indoors in the summer because the studio wasn't built for anything else. The sliding doors between the two mean the choice takes seconds, not a change of venue.
